Can a student from Arts stream go for NEET exam?


I’m an arts student in 12 but I want to prepare myself for NEET. So can I?

MBBS stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. to get admission in course candidates have to appear and qualify in National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test conducted by CBSE. Other option is to qualify in AIIMS MBBS examination.

To appear for these examination the basic required educational qualification is candidate must have passed 12th with Biology stream ( PCB ).So, you will be not eligible to appear for examination after 12th with arts stream.

Students from non-biology stream can also study MBBS. In a recent judgement, Rajasthan High Court has ruled that the study of biology is not a necessary condition to pursue MBBS within NEET exam.

Tanveer Ahmed and JK Yogi, counsels for the petitioners, had cited a division bench order of the Delhi High Court in the Tanishq Gangwar case in which it was ordered that “the disqualification of biology or biotechnology as an additional subject at 10+2 not be permissible.”

Basic Requirements

  • To fulfill the NEET eligibility criteria 2018, you must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English. If you belong to General Category should score a minimum of 50% marks in Class 12 or HSC examination.
  • in case you belong to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribes or Other Backward Classes (OBC) should score a minimum of 40% in their Class 12 or HSC examination.
  • For persons with locomotor disability of lower limbs, a minimum of 45% marks for General-PH and 40% marks for SC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH are required.
